The Best House Painting Apps Every Home Renovator Needs

EarlyExperts The Best House Painting Apps Every Home Renovator Needs earlyexperts.net

The absolute hardest part about painting, without question, is choosing the paint color. Period.

Even if you believe you have a full proof vision  of colors, accents, and trim, one trip to the paint store to start considering different hues and brands is all you will need to be completely put off by the entire process.

Until very recently, this was a reality every homeowner had to accept when embarking on a new paint project. Lucky for you and all other future painters, it is 2018 and there is a myriad of painting applications that help facilitate the processes of picking color and estimating quantity.

Here is our list of the top 5!

Color Connect by Valspar

With Color Connect, you can shop Valspar paint colors at any locations where they are in stock near you. There is also a built in paint calculator on this app which uses the square footage of the room to calculate how many gallons of paint will be required for the job.

One of the coolest things about Color Connect is the connect part. Specialized paint consultants are readily available through the app for advice on photos you upload of your work in progress. There is also a shortcut to curated how-to content and other resources to help you get started on the right foot and stay successful throughout the entirety of the project.

The big issues with this application as far as we are concerned: users are unable to save paint colors they have recently viewed and navigation can be tricky since there is no search function.

Color Smart by Behr Mobile

Get It On Google Play

Basically in direct opposition to the complaints we had about Color COnnect, ColorSmart lives up to its name, featuring a search function that allows you to explore color by shade, name, number, or color-family.

You can even upload a picture of a current paint color and the app will bring up the closest match it can find in Behr brand paint.

One of the cooler things about ColorSmart is the virtual preview, which allows you to see what the color will look like spread over a larger surface area (aka a random wall). The app also allows for calculations and lets you save all of your preferences.

Still, it is difficult to make an accurate assessment of how a color might look in your own house through this app. All paints should definitely be tested and scrutinized in real life before making any big bulk purchases.

Paint My Place

More Info Here

This application is not affiliated with any major paint brand, which is huge since it allows you to search across the big names. It is also the first on this list to feature a true personalization preview feature.

Upload a picture of the space you mean to paint, select the brand and the color scheme, and get down to the business of your virtual first coat.

This is the strange part. With the app, you actually use your finger to paint on the color to the photo of the room. That said, we suggest simply using the fill option. While it does not always read the outline of the walls perfectly, it will give you a good sense of what a particular color might look like in your space with its unique light and design implements.

One complaint we have about this app is the ads. Because it is free,  users are inundated with ads and banners prompting upgrading to premium paid versions of the app.

Color Snap by Shermin-Williams

Get It On Google Play

The thing that stands out about Color Snap is intuitiveness. When you upload a picture, the application not only matches the paint colors documented in the photo with the closest on brand colors, but also creates a custom color palette for the user.

Once you have your palette, you can click any of the colors featured for another set of complementary colors. This makes Color Snap not only a great tool for choosing paint, but also for general design.

Conclusion

With so much parody across these applications in terms of their functionality, choosing which one is right for you and your paint project is really more about brand. In other words, if you are more of a Behr fan, than it is worth it to use their application over another that may do more cool stuff.

That said, if you are truly trying to picture your home in the color you choose, Paint My Room is the clear stand-out. Even still, these applications should be treated as a starting point. Think of these as a way to wrap your head around shades of a given color without having to leave the couch and stare at tiny paint chips, trying desperately to see the difference.

At the end of the day, there is no substitute for paint on the wall in real life. If you use the apps to narrow your options the way you would with paint chips, you can order samples from there for the ultimate litmus test.
